Matt Hartley And welcome back to the, uh, convention floor here at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show. I'm Financial Post technology reporter Matt Hartley, and I'm joined by Polar Mobile CEO Kunal Gupta. They're a Toronto-based, uh, smartphone application development firm, and, uh, we're gonna ask him about some of the cool trends that, uh, he's seeing here at, uh, CES in Vegas. So Kunal, thanks for joining us.
Kunal Absolutely.
Matt Hartley Uh, so maybe we can just start there. What are some of the, uh, the really cool trends you're noticing in the smartphone game, uh, here on the convention floor?
Kunal I think the biggest trend by far is Android. Really this week Google launched Nexus One. Here at the show you've got brands or companies like Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola all launching a whole handset of Android devices. So Android's definitely coming to the forefront. It's gonna give consumers a lot of choice, and it's an open platform, which is great for guys like us.
Matt Hartley Well, let's, let's stick with that point for a second. Maybe tell me a little bit more about some of the things that, uh, you're seeing here that developers should be really excited about.
Kunal I think what's starting to change is that the devices are being used for different use cases. So up until now it's been mainly individual lifestyle, so your social networking, your communication, your email, a lot of content, and that's what Polar specialize in. And what's been really impressive here at the show is seeing companies that have turned your iPhone, your BlackBerry into your car starter, that have turned it into a TV remote. So people are looking at the mobile device as a lifestyle device is definitely the next trend, and something for a lot of developers to look at.
Matt Hartley Okay, and, uh, you know, while we got you here, tell us a little bit about what, uh, Polar Mobile's got cooking.
Kunal Again, a few exciting things for us is you're gonna see us go global fairly fast in the next few months with publishers all over the world launching on our platform. You're gonna see an increased focus in sports. Sports is great in mobile. Uh, fans are fanatic, as the league says it. And, uh, we're quite excited about Android as well. So that's all I can share right now, but 2010 is a big year for us.
Matt Hartley All right. Well, we'll check back in with you. Thanks a lot for joining us.
